The Beyondness Of Things

What is this life that we live that so infuses us with things that are within us all and yet so beyond our reach to understand that we can be driven to madness attempting to express it.

" I have put my heart and soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process."
Vincent Van Gogh

Why do some of us have this enveloping need to try to reach across the divide and bring back for others mere glimpses , for as great as our attempts may be this is what they remain, glimpsed translations of the nature of things. We may be able through our art to evoke great emotions and yet for us the channel, we are always left wanting.

"We must strive to reach that simplicity that lies beyond sophistication."
John Gardner

In all arts there are conventions, means by which in our chosen medium we learn to communicate; much as in the same reason we learn to write, to enable us to communicate our thoughts not having mastered telepathy yet.
It is in mastering the basic techniques of our mediums that we are better enabled to touch others with our thoughts and emotions. Through constant learning and a desire for perfection we advance our ability to express, moulding the conventions to better suit our view.

“Only one who devotes himself to a cause with his whole strength and soul can be a true master. For this reason mastery demands all of a person.”
Albert Einstein

I believe that good art distills this "Beyondness" and in its distillation becomes a separate entity, a new creation if you will, giving the viewer, listener, reader, toucher or taster nourishment on the journey home.

"Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life."
Pablo Picasso
